ANTI RAGGING CELL

THE GUJARAT REFINERY ENGLISH MEDIUM SCHOOL HAS POLICY OF ZERO TOLERANCE TO RAGGING AND VIOLENCE

Salient Points from the Supreme Court General Guidelines for eliminating ragging:

 

  1. Any form of bullying, ragging, and physical violence is unacceptable in our system and will be dealt with the utmost urgency and strictness.
  2. No act of violence which includes physical or sexual abuse or bullying will go unnoticed or unpunished.
  3.  Punishment will be commensurate with the gravity of the action and may include suspension, demand for immediate withdrawal, expulsion or rustication.
  4. Any such offence will be included in the Life Skill Section of the Report Card.
  5.  All of the following actions come broadly under ragging:
    a. Insulting, teasing or handling a student rudely.
    b. Creating psychological pressure or fear in the mind of a student.
    c. Forcing a student to act in a way which causes embarrassment or injury to a student.
    d. Taking undue advantage of social hierarchy such as senior students pressurizing junior students.
    e. Any act of abuse through spoken words, emails and public insults.
    f. Physical or sexual abuse.

 The following actions will be considered as ragging by The Gujarat Refinery English Medium School:

  1. Ordering juniors to arrange food items, beverages, snacks, water etc in the mess during meal times.
  2. Taking tuck from juniors or asking juniors to arrange tuck for seniors.
  3. Arranging unauthorized House parties for seniors by juniors.
  4. Ordering juniors to wake the seniors.
  5. Ordering juniors to reserve the fields during Inter-House activity or on Sundays.
  6. Use of extreme measures like hitting, mass boycott of a student by the entire batch or House, using psychological pressure as punishment, forcing someone to polish shoes, carry school bag, fill water bottle, write practical files etc.
  7. To get juniors to clean benches for seniors.
  8. To punish physically in any way in any situation.
  9. To use verbal/written abuse via e-mail or mobile phones, with juniors, classmates or any other person.
  10. To insult anyone publicly.
  11. To accept any demonstration of vulgarity, gender insult, or community based jokes/insults.
  12. Perpetuating violence, obscenity and any system of rules to create subjugation in the name of toughening the boys.
  13. Provoking enmity between groups/classes.

 

AN ACTION NOT MENTIONED ABOVE MAY ALSO BE CONSIDERED AS RAGGING AND DEALT WITH ACCORDINGLY, AT THE DISCRETION OF THE SCHOOL DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE.

ANTI-RAGGING POLICY

NO ACT OF VIOLENCE, WHICH INCLUDES PHYSICAL OR SEXUAL ABUSE, BULLYING OR RAGGING WILL GO UNNOTICED OR UNPUNISHED.

For New Admissions:
Even after admission is granted to a student, if the School finds that student has a history of being involved in perpetrating ragging or violence, the admission may be cancelled or the student may be expelled from the School.

Three Important Bodies:

Disciplinary Committee: The Gujarat Refinery English Medium School has a vigilant Disciplinary Committee for student affairs, which is responsible for taking disciplinary action against perpetrators of ragging, and providing counseling and comfort to the victim. The School follows a policy of zero tolerance towards violence and ragging, which are right on top of the list of extremely serious misbehaviors identified by the School.

Anti-Ragging Squad: The 7 member body consists of representatives from the Faculty, Administrative Staff and Security Staff with a mix of genders.

The main objectives of the Anti-Ragging Squad are:

  1. To oversee and pre-empt any possibility of ragging
    b. To conduct surprise visits and raids in the dormitories and other likely areas where raging may happen
    c. To inspect any area according to the discretion of the members
    d. To take steps in accordance with the school rules wherever required and to report the same to the Disciplinary Committee or Anti-Ragging Committee without delay

 Anti-Ragging Committee: This body consists of  the Chairman, the Secretary, the administrator, the Principal and the other members of Tirupati Group. The main objectives of this committee are:

a. To advise the School on systems to be followed, and activities to be followed, to prevent ragging.
b. To oversee all anti-ragging efforts and their effectiveness.
c. To help the school take action if any complaint regarding ragging is received.
